Imports of electric vehicles to Russia in September 2026 reached a record 3.4 thousand units

At the end of September 2026, the import of electric cars to Russia reached about 3.4 thousand units. This was stated by the deputy head of the analytics department of the industry agency Autostat, Dmitry Yarygin, as quoted by TASS.

In the first month of autumn, a total of 3.35 thousand electric cars were imported into the country from abroad. The achieved result was a record one, Yarygin explained.

We are talking about the import of classic electric cars, excluding hybrids, the agency added. Of the total number, the vast majority (2,970 units) were new electric cars. The remaining 380 pieces are used electric cars.

The record import of electric cars to Russia is being recorded against the backdrop of a noticeable increase in demand for such cars in the domestic market. The reason was the fuel crisis, which broke out in the country towards the end of summer against the backdrop of increasing attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on large oil refineries.

As a result, a number of Russian regions are faced with a shortage of motor fuel; in some areas, authorities have introduced restrictions on its sales to individuals.
