The 2026 Moscow Marathon set an absolute record for the number of participants

60 thousand participants registered for the Moscow Marathon 2026, which became an absolute record for the competition. This was reported by Sport-Express with reference to the director of the marathon Dmitry Tarasov.

Compared to 2013, when less than six thousand people took part in the first race in modern history, the number of participants has grown more than tenfold. Representatives from all 84 regions of Russia, more than 800 cities and towns of the country, as well as more than 40 countries will take part in the race.

Among those registered, 60 percent are men and 40 percent are women. About half of the participants will come to the capital specifically for the marathon. According to the Championship, in 2025, nonresident participants spent an average of 44 thousand rubles on a trip and spent three days in Moscow.

“The Moscow Marathon is the top event among all running events in the country, which attracts the maximum number of participants. […] Compared to 2013, we have actually grown more than tenfold, and this is an absolute record,” TASS quotes Tarasov as saying.

The competition will take place on September 26 and 27. On the first day there will be a ten-kilometer race and children's races at distances of 400 and 800 meters. In 2025, 16,756 people started the marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers, and 15,586 reached the finish line.
