Quanzhou, Fujian will host the 2026 Southern Fujian Theater Week and invite overseas folks to watch the theater for free

Cai Yingdian, Party Secretary of the Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau of Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, said on the 17th that Quanzhou will launch the 2026 Southern Fujian Theater Week and the "Quanzhou Opera "Art" drama performance event on September 24. It not only invites overseas Southern Fujian theater teams from Singapore, the Philippines and other countries to participate, but also simultaneously launches a plan for overseas relatives to return home to watch the theater for free.

As an important birthplace and inheritance place of Southern Opera in China, Quanzhou is a famous "opera nest" at home and abroad, giving birth to intangible cultural heritage treasures such as string puppetry, Liyuan Opera, and Gaojia Opera.

At the press conference of the 2026 Southern Fujian Theater Week and the Quanzhou Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Ten "Springs" and Ten Beautiful Cultural Tourism Consumption Season Events held on the 17th, Cai Yingdian introduced that this Southern Fujian Theater Week has the theme of "New Voices of Ancient Opera·Sedition of Ancient Opera". Southern Fujian drama groups at home and abroad will not only perform on the same stage, but also discuss the protection, inheritance and development path of Southern Fujian drama.

It is understood that in 2026, the Southern Fujian Drama Week will carry out 12 activities, including special performances, theater masterpieces, a performance week of Wang Renjie's outstanding plays, a collection of famous Southern Fujian operas, an exchange meeting about "Talk Fairy Talking about Southern Fujian Opera", and a street show of Southern Fujian folk arts, to create a cultural brand of Southern Fujian with global recognition.

During the event, Quanzhou also innovatively created a drama market and five immersive drama street shows, and launched the "Come to Quanzhou and Be the Protagonist" interactive experience activity for domestic and foreign tourists, which deeply combined role play, science and technology experience, musical instrument interaction with opera parades and art array performances, so that there is drama in the whole city, there is drama every day, and everyone has drama.
