The 2026 annual meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development opens in Beijing

China News Service, Beijing, September 27 (Reporter Ruan Yulin) The 2026 Annual Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) opened in Beijing on the 27th.

With the theme of "Pragmatic and innovative cooperation, working together to move forward greenly", this annual meeting aims to strengthen cooperation beliefs, build green consensus, and jointly seek pragmatic strategies for low-carbon transformation. The annual meeting will last until the 29th.

In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, Huang Runqiu, Chinese Executive Vice Chairman of CCICED and Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, pointed out that this theme is to further pool the wisdom of all parties, build broad consensus, form more forward-looking and strategic policy recommendations, and provide more practical solutions for accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development and building a beautiful China.

Huang Runqiu pointed out that this year is the closing year of the seventh CCICED. In the past five years, the CCICED has always focused on the main line of "green, inclusive, and high-quality development" and focused on major issues such as carbon peak carbon neutrality, biodiversity protection, sustainable blue economy, circular economy, and green and just transformation. It has conducted in-depth Sino-foreign joint research and formed a series of forward-looking and constructive policy recommendations, which have effectively served the construction of China's ecological civilization and provided important reference for promoting global sustainable development. In this historical process, all members, experts and partners have provided advice and suggestions with their insights, served decision-making with professionalism, and worked side by side to pool their strength to promote the CCICED to become a green bridge connecting China and the world.

Steiner, former administrator of the United Nations Development Program, said that this meeting marks the end of the seventh work cycle of the CCICED. For more than 30 years, CCICED has served as a think tank platform and a voice channel for various development concepts. CCICED helps the world understand China and helps China see the world clearly. We look forward to the next phase of the CCICED’s work, which will closely follow the needs of the times, gather global wisdom, jointly build a future-oriented governance platform, and promote global green transformation in a down-to-earth manner.

The CCICED was established in 1992. It is an international high-level policy advisory body approved by the Chinese government. It is China’s longest-standing, highest-level, most fruitful and influential high-level dialogue and cooperation mechanism between China and foreign countries on environment and development.
