Gen.G advances to the finals of the 2026 LoL World Championship... 3-0 win over IG

LCK champion Gen.G is just one step away from winning the World Championship after winning MSI this year.

Gen.G defeated Invictus Gaming (IG) with a set score of 3-0 in the semifinals of the 2026 LoL World Championship held in Allen, Texas, USA on the 8th and advanced to the finals.

In the 4th minute, Gen.G Kim 'Canyon' Geon-bu caused Yanyang Wei 'Wey', whom he encountered in the jungle, to dive into the tower near the top line, catching Kang 'TheShy' Seung-rok and Wei, widening the gap in the jungle.

Canyon then moved down to the mid lane and scored a kill against IG's 'Rookie' Song Eui-jin, putting a wedge into their advantage.

IG tried to make amends by hunting Void Larva, but they were defeated individually by Gen.G's surprise attack and allowed the lead.

In the ensuing group battle, the duo of Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and “Duro” Joo Min-gyu grew by sweeping up kills based on their advantage in the jungle.

Gen.G put pressure on IG and received the Baron buff in the 30th minute without resistance, increasing the total gold difference to 11,000.

Gen.G took advantage of the overwhelming weight difference between champions and broke the opponent's Nexus in 33 minutes to take the first set.

If the 1st set was the top, the 2nd set was the bottom.

In the 6th minute, IG caught Duro with a tower dive when Wei attacked the bottom line, but they were too greedy and allowed Canyon and Ruler to counterattack, giving up 3 kills.

Gen.G responded to IG’s urgency with ease. Canyon joined at the end of one bottom line fight and double-killed the falling duo of Zichi “Zachi” and Tenye “Meiko”.

In the beginning, the gap grew like a snowball and IG collapsed rapidly. Following the Baron buff, Gen.G received the third dragon, and in the 27th minute, Jeong Ji-hoon “Chovy” and Ruler scored kills in a teamfight, ending the match with a landslide victory in 29 minutes.

IG, who had reached match point, looked for an opportunity in the third set by pulling the line inward.

The first goal came in the 11th minute. IG's four players, excluding Ja Ja, attacked the top line and eliminated Gein and Duro, with Rookie taking the lead with a double kill.

In the 16th minute, Gen.G Giin and Chovy came down to the bottom line and attempted a counterattack.

However, as if IG had been waiting, they countered by starting with Meiko's charge, catching Chovy and Gein with one shot, and even killing Duro.

Instead of being pushed back, Gen.G repeatedly exploited IG's gaps and slowed down the offensive as much as possible.

Gen.G signaled a comeback with Dragon Steal in the 30th minute.

Canyon made a surprise entry and took away the dragon with a combination of a hard strike and an ultimate skill, and while the opponent's formation was divided, Ruler turned the situation around with a triple kill. He then defeated the Baron, reversing the total gold gap.

The game went on for a long time. In the 39th minute, in a tense confrontation in the mid lane, Duro's Nautilus hit Jachi with an anchor line, and Gen.

Gen.G broke through Wei and Rookie's obstacles and rushed into the opponent's Nexus, winning a ticket to the finals to New York.

With today's victory, Gen.G advanced to the Worlds finals for the first time since its founding under its current team name, nine years after its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy, won the championship in 2017.

It is a challenge for captain Ruler to win the Worlds for the first time in 9 years, and a first challenge for the rest of the team.
