Cheonan City begins construction of a soccer history museum in earnest... Target opening in 2029

Cheonan City, South Chungcheong Province, is pushing ahead with the construction of a ‘Football History Museum’ that will capture the history of Korean football at a glance.

On the 23rd, the city held a report on the start of architectural design service for the Football History Museum and a construction advisory committee meeting in the city hall conference room.

The Football History Museum is a specialized facility that systematically preserves and researches the 140-year history of Korean football. It is scheduled to be built with two floors above ground and one floor underground within the Korea Football Park in Ipjang-myeon, Cheonan City. In addition to a storage room, there will be a permanent exhibition room, a special exhibition room, and a children's experience exhibition room.

At the meeting, the overall design and future schedule, including the museum building layout and circulation plan, were presented.

The city plans to complete the architectural design by July of next year and begin construction, with the goal of opening in 2029. Once the museum is built, it is expected to further enhance the symbolism of Korea Football Park, which will become a new landmark in the region.

Mayor Jang Ki-su said, "There is great interest from the soccer community and citizens in the construction of a soccer history museum. We will faithfully reflect the opinions of experts and citizens to complete it as a cultural hub that creates synergy with the Korea Football Park."
