Onishchenko allowed the emergence of a new pandemic strain of influenza until 2029

A new pandemic flu strain may appear before 2029. Such a scenario was allowed by RAS academician and deputy president of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

According to him, viruses continue to mutate and look for ways to become more aggressive and overcome the human immune barrier. At the same time, the academician said that thanks to the timely development of vaccines, the modern healthcare system has learned to anticipate the emergence of new dangerous infections in advance - about a year before they begin.

“We can have time to produce vaccines, scale them up, create individual and population immunity,” Onishchenko noted.

He added that in this case, we may not be talking about one country, but about creating global immunity. According to the academician, a similar phenomenon is just around the corner.
