واتهم منتقدون اتحادَ الطلاب بمحاولة إعادة صياغة تاريخ البلاد من خلال إبراز جناح، في مقابل التقليل من مكانة الشيخ مجيب الرحمن، أول رئيس لبنغلاديش وقائد استقلالها.

وقال ممزّق الصورة حابلدار لـ«وكالة الصحافة الفرنسية» إن «جناح هو أبو باكستان، لكن عندما وقف ضد البنغاليين ولغتهم، أصبح في نظرنا شريراً».

لكن إرث مجيب الرحمن يثير بدوره جدلاً واسعاً. فابنته حسينة الذي انتهى حكمها المتسلط بصفتها رئيسةً للوزراء بثورة دامية قادها الطلاب عام 2024، هي موضع نقمة لدى الذين أطاحوها. وحُكم على حسينة بالإعدام غيابياً، وحُظرت أنشطة حزبها السابق؛ «رابطة عوامي».
