Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi gives first general debate speech at UN General Assembly, emphasizing support for ICC

On the evening of the 22nd (morning of the 23rd Japan time), Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will deliver her first general debate speech since taking office at the United Nations General Assembly, which is currently being held in New York. He emphasized that Japan "consistently supports" the International Criminal Court (ICC), which the Trump administration is increasing pressure on. It expresses its intention to "contribute to the maintenance and development of a free and open international order based on the rule of law." However, he refrained from mentioning that the US administration had imposed sanctions on Director Tomoko Akane.

The Prime Minister exemplified three points as Japan's efforts in light of the increasingly tense international situation: (1) strengthening the supply chain, (2) strengthening cooperation for peace and stability, and (3) maintaining and developing the international order. Introducing that they are formulating economic and energy cooperation plans for the Gulf countries of the Middle East. It points out that there are "increasing concerns about arbitrary export restrictions" with China in mind.
