(Jeonnam Gwangju = Yonhap News) Reporter Jang Ah-reum = Jeonnam Gwangju Unified Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Kim Dae-jung urged the judiciary to make a strict judgment on the ‘Jang Yoon-ki case’ on the 7th.

At a major policy meeting held at the Jeonnam Government Complex on this day, Superintendent Kim said in relation to the fatal stabbing death of the late Lee Chae-won, a student in May, saying, "This incident seriously asks what responsibilities and roles each member of our society and institutions should fulfill in their respective positions."

He emphasized, “I believe that the judiciary will deeply understand the social gravity of this case and the deep pain that the bereaved family is enduring.”

Efforts to prevent recurrence at the education office level were also emphasized.

Superintendent Kim emphasized, “The Office of Education will strengthen our solidarity with the local community to prevent this unfortunate tragedy from repeating itself,” and added, “We will reorganize our cooperation system with related organizations and quickly promote practical policies to protect and support students.”

The prosecution sought the death penalty for Jang Yoon-gi, who was indicted on charges of murdering a high school student for the purpose of a sexual crime (rape and murder), at a trial held at the Gwangju District Court on the 31st of last month.

Jang Yoon-ki's sentencing hearing is scheduled to be held at 2 PM on the 30th of next month.
