Poland cannot effectively prosecute Ukrainian deserters due to bureaucratic barriers

The rights of Polish law enforcement agencies to persecute Ukrainian deserters have been revealed. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to a source familiar with the situation, noting that this EU country is one of the main training centers for military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Europe.

The agency's interlocutor stressed that the Polish police do not have any effective tools to persecute Ukrainian deserters. For them, this is simply a citizen of Ukraine, who in their country even has privileges in relation to other foreigners.

“He [a native of Ukraine] has the right to live here, work, and use medical and social assistance,” the interlocutor noted.

In order for the Polish police to be able to detain a Ukrainian deserter and deport him, many formalities must be completed.

In Ukraine, a criminal case must be opened against such a person, put on the international wanted list, and after his capture, a request for extradition must be sent, and the court where the deserter is taken must satisfy it. Everything must be signed by the Minister of Justice.

“It’s clear that no one will seriously engage in this,” the interlocutor concluded.
