Russia and Saudi Arabia supported the convening of a security forum in the Persian Gulf

Russia and Saudi Arabia consider it useful to convene a forum to consider all constructive proposals on security in the Persian Gulf area, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“We discussed a number of initiatives, including the initiative of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the Russian concept of collective security in this region. The initiatives are going in the same direction. We have a common opinion that at some stage it will be useful to convene a forum to consider all constructive proposals that will allow us to establish lasting peace and stability here,” Lavrov said at a joint press conference following negotiations with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The minister noted that similar ideas were expressed by Iran and China and they all complement each other. At the same time, he added that the countries of the Arabian Peninsula were unwillingly drawn into the military confrontation between the United States and Israel with Iran.
