One year since the start of "emergency gun hunting" for bears, 81 cases have been carried out in 14 prefectures... Issues include safety and lack of know-how

One year after the launch of "emergency gun hunting" to deal with bears and wild boars appearing in urban areas, a total of 81 cases have been carried out across 14 prefectures. While effective for rapid capture, challenges such as the time required to ensure safety, as well as a lack of know-how and personnel, have come to light.

As global warming rises by 4 degrees, the number of ski resorts in Japan will drop to 7, analyzed by Hokkaido University and others

A research team from Hokkaido University and the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute conducted a simulation analysis using Japan Meteorological Agency climate forecast data and found that if the global average temperature were to rise 4 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels due to global warming, the number of ski resorts in Japan that can operate reliably with only natural snow would decrease to seven. It is estimated that 53 ski resorts will be able to open at full capacity if the temperature rises to 2 degrees Celsius, and researchers say that a temperature rise of 4 degrees Celsius would have a devastating impact on the ski industry.

The Japan Meteorological Agency analyzes the mechanism behind the formation of linear rain bands in Chiba heavy rains in August

The Chiba heavy rains that began on the evening of August 13th produced a linear precipitation band, and the Chuo Ward of Chiba City recorded the heaviest rainfall in recorded history at 115 mm in one hour and 367 mm in 24 hours. A front was formed when a layer of cold air in the inland Kanto region collided with warm and humid air from the east, and the Japan Meteorological Agency analyzed that an increase in water vapor due to global warming was behind this. It was also revealed that the supercomputer prediction model was unable to detect the occurrence of the band.
