Consumers posted on Threads and broke the news that their parents accidentally tore off the date label on the package after eating chicken feet from a duck shop in Yilan, and found that there were two layers of labels, with the expiration date printed on the bottom layer. After the news spread, concerns about "relabeling" were raised.

The operator explained in an interview with the media today that the product itself has not expired, and it was purely a packaging error. The packaging bag with the wrong date should have been destroyed, but the employees acted cheaply and did not discard it in accordance with the regulations. They directly covered it with a new label. After preliminary inspection, more than 10 bags had a similar situation.

The industry stated that after receiving complaints from consumers last night, 300 to 400 packages of chicken feet from the same batch were removed from the shelves for recycling and were all destroyed today. At the same time, they have reconciled with the consumers who reported the complaints and completed compensation. The labeling and packaging management processes will be reviewed in the future.

The Yilan County Health Bureau learned of the incident and sent personnel to inspect the store in Jiaoxi Township. Director Xu Naiwei said that if the food is found to be expired, it violates Article 15 of the Food Safety and Hygiene Management Law, and a fine of 60,000 to 200 million yuan can be imposed, and the product is confiscated and destroyed; if the food is not expired, but the label is false, it violates Article 28 of the Food Safety Law, and a fine of 40,000 to 4 million yuan can be imposed. It must be corrected within a time limit; once it is found that the expiration date is deliberately altered for sale, criminal liability has been involved and will be transferred for inspection and investigation.

After inspection, health bureau personnel found no expired food. In view of the overlapping of old and new labels on some products, the industry was instructed to improve packaging materials and strengthen label management to avoid the coexistence of old and new labels, which would cause consumers to have doubts about the interpretation of product information. Subsequent fines will be issued for violating Article 28 of the Food Safety Law.
