Typhoon No. 26 approaches Chubu region, including Nagoya, early next month

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency on the 27th, Typhoon Surigae was heading north-northeast at a speed of 15 km per hour in the southern seas of Okinawa at 6 a.m. on this day.

The central pressure is 975hPa (hectopascal), the maximum wind speed near the center is 35m, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed is 50m.

The Meteorological Agency predicts that as the typhoon develops, it will move north and approach the Amami Islands in Okinawa and Kagoshima Prefectures with strong force on the 29th. The wind has already become stronger in Okinawa Prefecture, and the Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that the maximum wind speed on this day will be 23m and the maximum instantaneous wind speed will be 35m.

The wave height is also expected to be 6m, and Okinawa Prefecture warned that sufficient caution is needed against high waves, strong winds, and sediment disasters.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said that depending on the typhoon's path, there is a possibility of warning-level heavy rain in Okinawa. It predicted that 80 mm of rain would fall in many places in the 24 hours until 6 a.m. on the 28th, and that heavy rain of 80 mm would fall again for the next 24 hours.

It is not clear whether this typhoon will directly hit Aichi Prefecture, where the Asian Games are being held, as the future travel route is flexible, but there is a possibility that rain clouds will cover the area due to the typhoon's influence.

Looking at the Korea Meteorological Administration's predicted route map, this typhoon is expected to be located closest to the Chubu region, including Aichi Prefecture, on the 1st and 2nd of next month, close to the closing date (4th of next month). It is expected that it will later affect metropolitan areas such as Tokyo.

If the typhoon directly hits the metropolitan area, there is a risk of flood damage again in Chiba Prefecture, which is in the midst of recovery after suffering damage from record-breaking rain. Chiba Prefecture experienced record-breaking heavy rain in the middle of last month and early this month, and recently suffered damage from Typhoon No. 25 Dujuan.

Kyodo News advised that special vigilance is needed in Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, which have already suffered significant damage from heavy rain caused by Typhoon No. 25.

Meanwhile, apart from Typhoon Surigae, due to the influence of the fall rain front, rain is forecast for the Honshu region on this day in a wide area from southwestern Kyushu to the Chubu region.

In particular, there is a possibility that linear precipitation zones (zones of heavy rain) may occur in Nagasaki Prefecture, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kumamoto Prefecture, Nagasaki Prefecture, and Saga Prefecture, so the Meteorological Agency is emphasizing the need to be on guard for landslide disasters, flooding, and river flooding.
