Verlander’s daughter made a surprise appearance after retiring from the game, and she cried as she thanked her family

Head coach AJ Hinch and Verlander’s wife, supermodel Kate Upton, secretly prepared a surprise. Verlander was greeted by his 7-year-old daughter Genevieve when he left the game. Verlander exited the game with one out and 0-2 behind in the 6th inning. Head coach Hinch walked to home plate first. Verlander's 7-year-old daughter, Genevieve, immediately ran to home plate and hugged her father after receiving the instructions. Verlander was surprised and happy, and immediately bent down to hug her daughter, leaving the man in tears.

Hinch was interviewed after the game and said that this was planned together with Verlander's wife, Upton. He said: "It's really hard to surprise someone who likes to have everything planned and arranged more than anyone I know. We wanted to prepare something special, and his family is everything to him." Hinch also explained that usually the major leagues will not let people who are not players or staff into the stadium during games, but they will make exceptions for those quasi-Hall of Fame stars who are retiring.

Regarding this surprise, Verlander said frankly: "It was really great. I cried like a mess at the time. I had to make sure that she knew that I was crying because I was happy. She had never seen me cry like that."

When Verlander left the game, he hugged a family of three, then high-fived his teammates, took off his hat to greet all the fans, and finally walked down the steps of the dugout while holding the hands of his family. Verlander said: "Being with my family is what I look forward to most after retirement. Being able to leave the court with them and draw a perfect end to my career is the best ending."
