Russia warns NATO that it will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons if Kaliningrad is isolated

Russia recently warned NATO in writing that if NATO attempts to cut off ties between Russia and the country's enclave of Kaliningrad, Russia will use all means to defend itself, including nuclear weapons.

"Reuters" reported that Russia stated in a document submitted to NATO that Russia has no intention to attack NATO countries, but any act of aggression against Kaliningrad will face the strongest response from Russia. "If NATO countries initiate any attempt to separate Kaliningrad from the rest of Russia, Russia is prepared to use all its forces and capabilities, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory."

"Reuters" pointed out that this document is classified as an "unofficial document" (non-paper), which in diplomatic terms refers to an unofficial diplomatic document.

NATO spokesperson Allison Hart confirmed that Russia had submitted an informal document, but she did not disclose the specific content. "We have sent a response and pointed out that NATO is a defensive alliance and that none of our activities or exercises pose a threat to any Russian territory. We strongly condemn the threat of force, including any irresponsible nuclear weapons remarks. We call on Russia to end the war they have provoked for no reason in Ukraine."

"(This is) the first time since the Cold War that Russia has threatened us like this, so it's serious," a senior European defense official said.
