German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said that he initiated a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN at the request of his colleagues.

The meeting of the two ministers took place on Saturday at the UN at the initiative of the German side. Lavrov said that he expected something interesting from the meeting with his German colleague, but did not hear anything new from him.

"On the one hand, numerous colleagues asked me to be open to conversation. They advised that at some point it will again be necessary to start talking to each other directly," Wadeful said in an interview with ZDF television.

In response to a clarifying question, the minister noted that many of his colleagues talked with Lavrov, and it was from them, according to him, that he received a request for a meeting.

In addition, the German minister emphasized that he does not want the Europeans to completely cede interaction with Russia to the Americans.
