Gimpo City prepares a plan to revitalize Laveniche... Seeking sustainable business led by merchants

Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 28th that it is preparing a plan to revitalize 'La Venice', which has an artificial waterway and commercial district, as a representative waterside tourism and commercial space in the region.

The task force (TF) formed for this purpose agreed at its first meeting on the 23rd that there was a need for an operation plan that would allow visitors to consume while staying, rather than simply reorganizing facilities or holding events.

As support from local governments alone has its limits, we also discussed ways to discover projects that merchant associations can continue to pursue as the main body and lay the foundation for businesses that merchants can lead on their own.

Gimpo City plans to form a civil-coexistence council that can reflect the opinions of experts in each field and the private sector to specify effective measures.

In addition, we plan to strengthen linkages between individual projects such as the La Venice Festival, commercial district revitalization support projects, and pedestrian environment improvement projects.

An official from Gimpo City said, “La Venice is a combination of tourism, commerce, waterfront space, and residential space,” and added, “Rather than focusing on just one field, we need a process in which various entities consider and coordinate together.”

Gimpo La Venice, which was created with the motif of Venice, Italy, has shops, cafes, walking trails, and water leisure facilities along an artificial waterway with a total length of 2.68km.
