The movie "Hijack" adapted from a real-life hijacking in Vietnam has a box office of NT$300 million and will be released in Taiwan on October 8

[Reporter Xu Shiying/Comprehensive Report] The action film "Hijacking" is an adaptation of a real hijacking incident in Vietnam. It is directed by Vietnamese-American director Chen Han and stars Taihe and Katie Nguyen. The film recreates the thrilling process of the hijacking of a commercial airliner. After being released in Vietnam, the film accumulated a box office of approximately NT$300 million and became the top-grossing action film there.

"Hijacking" is not a completely fictional aerial crime story, but based on real hijackings in Vietnam's aviation history. During the movie's release, the former captain and flight attendants who were involved in the incident also attended the premiere event to share their personal experiences, creating a special connection between the movie and the real events.

In the film, Taihe plays the role of Aaron, the leader of the hijacking, who leads the group to seize the civil airliner; Katie Nguyen plays the role of flight attendant Zhenzhen, who fights against the gangsters with other crew members in the cramped cabin. The two have collaborated on "Soul of Father, Body of Daughter" in the past. This time, the relationship between father and daughter in the film has changed to a life-or-death rivalry.

In order to restore the action scenes in the cabin, the crew spent NT$2.5 million and 2 months to create a 1:1 real-life passenger aircraft. From the seats to the cabin structure, all were made with reference to real aircraft, and lifting and dynamic equipment were added to allow the cabin to actually vibrate, tilt, dive and shake. Therefore, actors must complete action scenes such as close combat in a moving cabin, which increases the difficulty of filming.

After the film was released, it won the "Best Vietnamese Film" at the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival. Tae Hoa was also selected as the Best Actor and was selected into the competition section of the Far East International Film Festival in Udine, Italy. The New York Times included the film in its "Five Action Movies to Stream Now" recommendation list this year.

The story describes that Aaron and his group hijacked a civilian airliner, held the passengers and crew hostage, and forced it to change its route. Facing the numerically superior hijacking group, Zhenzhen and flight attendant Xiaoxian must deal with the limited space while trying to protect the passengers.
