A major industrial safety accident occurred in Meng'ao Port, Dongju Island, Lianjiang County, this morning (15th). Three workers were suspected of inhaling harmful gases during construction in the floating platform cabin, and lost consciousness one after another and were trapped. After receiving the notification at 10:40 a.m., the Lianjiang County Fire Department immediately dispatched personnel to the scene. The national army, coast patrol and police and firefighters jointly launched rescue operations. All three people were no longer breathing and heartbeating (OHCA) when they were rescued. After the efforts of the scene and doctors to rescue them, they were still declared dead. Lianjiang County Magistrate Wang Zhongming was deeply saddened by this. He immediately went to the scene to understand the situation and instructed relevant units to fully assist the family and properly handle the follow-up matters.
Preliminary information shows that the accident occurred in the cabin of the floating platform in Meng'ao Port. Two original operators lost consciousness during the construction. The third operator discovered something unusual and entered the cabin to try to rescue him, and then also passed out. After arriving at the scene, fire department personnel conducted rescue and gas detection and found that the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in the cabin was relatively high. As for the actual cause of the accident, the source of harmful gases and related operating environment conditions, further investigation and clarification by relevant units such as labor inspection and judicial forensics are still needed.
After the accident, County Magistrate Wang Zhongming immediately took a boat to Meng'ao Port on Dongju Island to learn about the rescue and accident handling situation. He convened a meeting with Deputy County Magistrate Chen Guanren, Juguang County Councilor Chen Yibin, and relevant units such as the Public Works Department, Civil Society Department, Fire Department, Police Department, Nangan Township Office, etc., and required all units to cooperate closely and ensure family contact, emotional comfort, and follow-up assistance, so that family members can obtain necessary support and assistance when facing sudden major changes.
Zeng Yuhua, director of the Civil and Social Affairs Department, pointed out that the county government has notified the North District Occupational Safety and Health Center of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor about the case. Relevant personnel are expected to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow to investigate the cause of the accident. The Civil and Social Affairs Department has also arranged social workers to contact the family members and will provide emergency relief and other necessary assistance in accordance with relevant regulations.
After receiving the report, the county police station has contacted the family and notified the local prosecutor's office and relevant forensic units to intervene. It will subsequently cooperate with the judicial and occupational safety and health authorities in investigating the accident. The remains of the three victims will be taken back to Nangan Life Park for placement, and the procuratorate will conduct an examination and related forensic procedures in accordance with the law to clarify the accident and the attribution of responsibility.
