Iranian Foreign Minister Aragchi says, 'We will not close the path to diplomatic negotiations'... Stay in the U.S. for up to 30 days

The road to diplomatic negotiations is not closed... Araghchi, stay in the US until 30 days

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kang Hoon-sang = Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi announced that he is waiting for a clear position from the United States on the conditions proposed by Iran through the mediation country in relation to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Minister Araghci said through a Telegram channel on the 27th, "We have confirmed the first reaction of the U.S. President," and "However, nothing has been relayed to us from the mediators yet, and we are waiting for a clear position to be conveyed through the mediators."

Minister Araghci, who visited the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly, plans to stay until the 30th.

Iran is known to have proposed to the United States that the Strait of Hormuz can be reopened within 7 days if the United States lifts the maritime blockade, returns frozen funds, ceasefires on all fronts, and waives sanctions on exports of Iranian crude oil. US President Donald Trump announced on the 26th (local time) that he rejected this.

Minister Araghci also said, “The U.S. president said some good things, but he also said many things that contradicted each other, which is unfortunately something we have seen often,” and added, “We will make a decision based on the U.S.’s definitive position.”

Since Minister Araghchi's Telegram message came after President Trump's rejection, Iran appears to have judged that the United States' "true intentions" were somewhat different.

He emphasized, “Anyway, our conditions are clear,” and “Any progress toward opening the Strait of Hormuz is premised on (our) conditions being realized, and we will never back down from this.”

“They can get out of this deadlock only through negotiations,” he said, adding, “We have the upper hand politically because we have never closed the avenues of diplomacy and negotiations and at the same time have not conceded our rights.”

He added, "We had several meetings with the (Iranian) president on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Our core position in these meetings was to explain Iran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and advancing negotiations, and these conditions are determined by the Supreme National Security Council."
