The Pinglu Canal is the first canal connecting the river and the sea that has been planned and constructed at the national level since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Guigang is the core city of the Pinglu Canal Economic Belt and an important hub of the Pearl River-Xijiang Economic Belt. Qinzhou is an important hub seaport of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and the core port area of ​​the Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port and the outlet of the Pinglu Canal.

Recently, the Guigang Municipal People's Government and the Qinzhou Municipal People's Government signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. With the completion of the Pinglu Canal and its opening to navigation, Guigang is facing a historic opportunity to transform from a single channel of "Pearl River to the sea" to a two-way pattern of "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area + Pinglu Canal" to the sea.
