As a result of a Real Meter survey of 1,508 people aged 18 or older nationwide from the 21st to the 23rd at the request of the Energy Economy News, the positive evaluation of President Lee's performance of state affairs was calculated to be 37.9%, up 3.1 percentage points from last week.
Negative evaluation was 60.1%, down 3.3 percentage points from the previous week. ‘I don’t know’ was 2.0%.
President Lee's approval rating rebounded for the first time in 10 weeks last week.
By region, the positive evaluation of state administration in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do and Jeonbuk (65.5%) rebounded by 13.7% points compared to the previous week.
Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong (40.0%) and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (36.4%) also rose by 6.9%p and 5.9%p, respectively, and the approval rating in Seoul (32.6%, 1.5%p up) also rose slightly.
It fell in Daegu and Gyeongbuk (21.9%, 2.3%p↓) and Incheon and Gyeonggi (36.5%, 1.1%p↓).
By age, approval ratings showed a recovery in those in their 50s (47.4%, 6.7%p↑), those in their 70s or older (38.8%, 4.8%p↑), and those in their 40s (43.1%, 4.2%p↑), and also rose in those in their 30s (31.4%, 1.6%p).
By ideological inclination, it rose by 4.2% points in the moderate class (39.9%) and by 3.7% points in the conservative class (16.3%).
By occupation, the rate of positive evaluations of government performance increased among sales, production, labor, and services (42.7%, 6.6%p↑), unemployed, retired, and other (36.5%, 3.8%p↑), and students (30.1%, 2.9%p↑).
Realmeter analyzed that “communication through public press conferences and diplomatic trips to the UN General Assembly and the Korea-U.S. summit had a positive effect, and the will to reform personnel was also evaluated, such as the voluntary resignation of Justice Minister candidate Kim Seung-won and the expression of resignation by Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik.”
In a political party approval survey conducted on the 22nd and 23rd among 1,005 voters over the age of 18 across the country, it was found that the approval rating of the People Power Party surpassed the approval rating of the Democratic Party of Korea within the margin of error in just two weeks.
The Democratic Party recorded 38.7% and the People Power Party recorded 39.4%.
The Democratic Party fell 1.5 percentage points compared to the last survey, and the People Power Party rose 0.9 percentage points.
By region, the Democratic Party's approval rating in Seoul was 38.7%, up 2.7 percentage points from last week, and the People Power Party's approval rating was 43.9%, up 0.1 percentage points.
The Democratic Party's approval ratings fell in Daegu/Gyeongbuk (14.7%, 9.3%p↓), Jeonnam/Gwangju/Jeonbuk (56.4%, 5.8%p↓), and Incheon/Gyeonggi (41.6%, 3.0%p↓), while the People Power Party's approval ratings fell in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong (34.7%, 10.3%p↓).
In the approval rating for those in their 20s, the Democratic Party was at 20.9%, down 7.0 percentage points from the previous week, and the People Power Party was at 54.3%, up 1.9 percentage points.
During the same period, the approval rating among those in their 30s for the Democratic Party decreased by 5.1 percentage points to 30.4%, and for the People Power Party, it increased by 8.2 percentage points to 45.0%.
The Democratic Party suffered a relatively large decline among those in their 40s (45.3%, 6.5%p↓), and the People Power Party suffered a relatively large decline among those in their 60s (35.7%, 7.2%p↓).
By occupation, the Democratic Party's approval ratings fell among students (24.0%, 7.4%p↓), self-employed people (39.9%, 5.0%p↓), and agriculture, forestry and fisheries (33.4%, 4.1%p↓), while the People Power Party's approval ratings fell among students (41.2%, 8.6%p↓) and agriculture, forestry and fisheries (44.0%, 8.2%p↓).
Realmeter said, "The People Power Party seems to have taken advantage of the successive failures of ministerial candidates to attack the government's personnel verification practices, while also highlighting the conflict in the judiciary and the controversy over constitutional amendments, leading to a rise in approval ratings."
Regarding the Democratic Party, he said, "It appears that the approval rating has fallen due to the defection of people in their 40s and moderates due to the conflict within the party over the selection of a candidate for the head of the Central Investigation Agency and the rejection of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's reappointment to the Supreme Court."
The Fatherland Innovation Party, whose approval rating had been rising for five weeks in a row, fell 1.2 percentage points to 4.0%. The New Reform Party is 2.9% and the Progressive Party is 1.4%. Other political parties were surveyed at 3.3%, and independents were at 10.2%.
The sampling error for the survey on the approval of the president's performance of state affairs was ±2.5%p at the 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 3.8%.
