George Clooney criticizes the Trump administration and describes it as "kakkistocracy"

American movie star George Clooney criticized the administration of President Donald Trump, saying that the United States is run by "the least qualified people."

Clooney's statements to the media came on the opening day of the Venice Film Festival, where he received the "Golden Lion" award in honor of his artistic career.

In a press conference in which he touched on his career and other topics, including artificial intelligence, climate change, and the reality of the film industry, Clooney expressed his feeling of “ashame” towards the American government.

The 65-year-old star, who has previously publicly criticized the Trump administration, said, "I truly believe... that we are going through an unfortunate phase. In fact, I think this description does not do it justice."

He added, "There is a wonderful term known as 'kakistocracy,' which means a state ruled by the least qualified people." “I think we may be living under a system like this now, but we will get through this stage.”

Midterm elections

George Clooney indicated that the midterm elections for the US Congress in November may provide a kind of “check and balance,” adding, “And in 2028, if we are lucky, we will see a return to some form of normality.”

Clooney described himself as an optimist, noting that he had lived through other difficult times in the country's history.

He said, "I lived through the events of 1968 in the United States, when every American city caught fire and we lost Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy in the same year."

He continued, saying, "There was a tremendous amount of violence, and tanks even surrounded the Capitol building." He added, "We have gone through other difficult times, and this is one of the difficult periods."

"We'll get through it"

Clooney referred to a tweet published this week by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in which he appeared to mock the physical appearance of an overweight Canadian soldier while presenting her with a medal at a youth camp.

"Where is the sense of decency in all this?" Clooney asked. I feel ashamed of all of this, but we will get through it,” stressing, “We will emerge from this ordeal in better condition.”
