The main body of China's first offshore carbon injection and gas enhancement project is completed, which can store more than one million tons of carbon dioxide per year

(referred to as "Offshore Oil Engineering") on the 4th that the main body of the new central platform for the Dongfang 1-1 gas field, China's first offshore carbon injection and gas augmentation technology demonstration application project, has been completed and has entered the commissioning stage. After the project is put into operation, it will be able to store more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide in the seabed strata every year.

Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field is China's first self-operated offshore gas field and a representative offshore carbon-rich gas field. Since its completion and commissioning in 2003, the cumulative gas production has exceeded 50 billion cubic meters. As the development of the gas field enters the mid-to-late stage, carbon injection and gas enhancement technology is being used for demonstration purposes in the gas field.

The newly-built central platform weighs nearly 17,000 tons, is more than 28 stories high, and has a total deck area of more than 10,000 square meters. It can capture and purify the carbon dioxide associated with mining and then pressurize it back into the formation, which not only improves the recovery rate of difficult-to-recover natural gas, but also achieves permanent carbon dioxide storage.

Yu Fasong, the person in charge of the carbon dioxide capture, storage and utilization project of the Dongfang 1-1 gas field of CNOOC Hainan Company, said that the project system has built a full-chain closed-loop technology system for offshore carbon dioxide capture, purification, storage, and gas displacement to increase production. It is the world's first "low-temperature distillation + membrane separation" natural gas decarbonization technology. The key equipment has been fully localized. Energy consumption is reduced by 20% compared with traditional decarbonization processes, and the natural gas recovery rate is increased by more than 12%.

The main body of the central platform will be shipped to the South China Sea after completion of commissioning in Qingdao, and the jacket has been installed in the Yinggehai area of ​​the South China Sea. After the platform is put into operation, it will be linked to 12 platforms including Dongfang 13-2 and Dongfang 29-1 to accelerate the release of large-scale carbon storage potential of offshore oil and gas wells and help China build an offshore carbon dioxide capture, storage and utilization base.
