On the morning of that day, the Wetland Wildlife Conservation Station received help from the Limingzhuang Town Police Station: Villagers in Zhougezhuang Village found a "big bird" that could not fly and needed professional rescue. The staff immediately activated the linkage mechanism with the Tianjin Wildlife Domestication and Breeding Center North District Rescue Station and rushed to the scene for disposal. It was confirmed that this "big bird" is a sub-adult black stork, a national first-level protected animal.
After a comprehensive examination, the sub-adult black stork weighed 2.3 kilograms, was weak, and had scratches on its wings and legs. The ambulance personnel rehydrated him, debrided him, and placed him in the intensive care unit for observation. After their physical condition stabilizes, they will be transferred to a rewilding recovery area for adaptive training. They will then be released when their physical fitness and survival abilities are up to standard.
The black stork is a national first-level protected wild animal and is included in the "International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Endangered Species". It is known as the "Giant Panda among Birds". It has extremely high requirements for its habitat. Only areas with clean water, little human interference, and high ecological quality can meet its survival needs. Therefore, it is regarded as an important indicator species for judging regional ecological quality. At present, the domestic wild black stork population is rare, with about 1,000 individuals. The appearance and successful rescue of black storks in Jizhou is a strong confirmation that the ecological environment in the area continues to improve.
