The truck got stuck at a railway crossing and the train hit the trailer

The accident occurred on Thursday before 14. The driver of a tractor-trailer truck entered the railway crossing when the barriers began to lower. The vehicle was between the barriers.

A train on the Gdynia Główna-Zielona Góra route hit the truck's semi-trailer. About 250-300 people traveled in the train.

According to information from PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, witnesses signaled the driver that he should break the barrier and leave the crossing. The man made no such attempt.

As prosecutor Wioleta Noch from the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk announced on Friday, the 42-year-old was charged under Art. 174 pairs 2 of the Penal Code, i.e. causing a direct risk of a disaster in land traffic.

This act is punishable by up to three years' imprisonment.

The suspect did not plead guilty, but provided explanations. After the proceedings, preventive measures were taken against him.

Serious disruptions on the railway

The truck driver and the train driver were taken to hospital for blood sampling. After tests, the driver was discharged home. Both drivers were sober, and none of the passengers were injured.

The accident paralyzed traffic on the Tczew-Gdańsk route, which is important for connections between Warsaw, Poznań, Bydgoszcz and Tricity. One of the tracks was damaged.

PKP PLK reported that 279 trains were delayed, by a total of over 17.5 thousand. minutes. On part of the route, 30 trains were canceled and 45 were diverted through the Gdańsk Olszynka station. Scheduled traffic organization was restored on Thursday before midnight.

The costs of repairing the infrastructure, locomotive and crossing devices were estimated at approximately PLN 140,000. zloty. PKP PLK announced that they would seek a refund from the perpetrator of the incident in court.

PKP PLK: Break the barrier and get off the tracks

PKP PLK representatives remind us that if a vehicle gets stuck at a crossing, break the barrier and leave the track as quickly as possible.

The barrier is not a barrier beyond which you should wait for a collision, emphasized Przemysław Zieliński from PKP PLK. As he pointed out, a train weighing hundreds of tons cannot stop immediately.

On Friday, another dangerous incident occurred at the same crossing. A passenger car got stuck between the lowering barriers, but this time there was no collision - witnesses helped break the barrier and free the car from the tracks.
