Tobu Railway holds an apology conference at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism after an accident that killed four workers on the Tobu Nikko Line

Following an accident on the morning of the 20th in which four workers were killed in a collision with a limited express train on the tracks of Shin-Kanuma Station on the Tobu Nikko Line in Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture, Tobu Railway held a press conference at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo, after 6 p.m.

At the beginning of the press conference, Takao Suzuki, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer of Tobu Railway, apologized, saying, ``We take seriously the fact that such a serious accident occurred, and after investigating the cause of the accident, we will take thorough measures to prevent it from happening again.We have caused a great deal of inconvenience and worry to everyone involved.We are truly sorry.We would like to take this opportunity to deeply apologize.''

According to Tochigi Prefectural Police and Tobu Railway, a total of 10 people, including supervisors, were working to spray the herbicide on the tracks, and three of them were keeping watch. It is said that the ``Special Express Spacia X2'' entered the area and four people were caught. The four people are employees of Tobu Railway's partner companies. The limited express was heading to the platform to stop at Shin-Kanuma Station.
