Terror in the streets! A woman from Zhubei City, Hsinchu County, went out to walk her dog a few days ago. The dog suddenly barked at a 47-year-old man surnamed Peng. The drunken man was upset and attacked the female owner with a folding knife. The victim was so frightened that he ran away. The police who attended the scene fired four shots to stop the dog in a critical situation. Peng was sent to the hospital with a suspected buttock injury and was not seriously injured. Peng Nan was discharged from the hospital yesterday. After interrogation by prosecutors from the Hsinchu District Prosecutor's Office, they believed that Peng Nan had committed serious crimes and was at risk of repeated intimidation. This security incident occurred at about 5 o'clock in the evening on August 26. The Zhubei Police Station received an emergency report alleging that Peng Nan was harassing and attacking innocent people walking their dogs on the street with a folding knife. After Peng Nan recovered from his injuries yesterday and was discharged from the hospital, he was immediately transferred by the police to the Hsinchu District Prosecutor's Office for investigation. The prosecutor stated that after interrogation by the prosecutor Chen Qianzhen, it was determined that Peng Nan was guilty of the crime of intimidation under Article 305 of the Criminal Law, and the crime of "carrying a weapon with the intention of exercising it to obstruct the execution of official duties" under Article 135 of the Criminal Law, paragraph 3, paragraph 2, and the circumstances of the crime were serious. Considering that he committed random attacks in public places, seriously threatened the safety of the public and police officers, and had a very high risk of repeated crimes, he applied to the Hsinchu District Court for preventive detention in accordance with Article 101-1 of the Criminal Procedure Law, and the court ruled that he should be detained.
