Curling legend Tirinzoni, winner of 4 consecutive World Championships, appointed as general manager of the Korean national team

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Myeong-eon = Switzerland's 'curling legend' Silvana Tirinzoni, who achieved the feat of winning four consecutive World Championships, will take the helm of the Korean national curling team.

The Korea Curling Federation announced on the 4th, "After the final approval of the Korea Sports Council, the appointment of Tirinzoni as general manager has been completed," and "He will oversee all national team events, including men's and women's four-man and mixed doubles, starting from the upcoming 2026-2027 season."

The new general manager, Tirinzoni, is a veteran who has participated in three Winter Olympics, from Pyeongchang 2018 to Milan and Cortina 2026.

She retired last April after achieving an unprecedented four consecutive wins at the World Women's Curling Championships and playing as a legendary player who set the record for the longest winning streak in world curling history, with 42 consecutive wins from 2021 to 2024.

As a player, he showed off his cool-headed ice reading skills and abundant crisis management know-how. Last July, he applied for the league's foreign general manager position and was appointed through an interview process.

To assist general manager Tirinzoni, the federation plans to intensively prepare for the upcoming 2030 Alps Winter Olympics by forming a dedicated team, including trainer Lee Min-seok, who analyzes opponent power and global trends, and trainer Kim Hong-young, who is in charge of analyzing ice conditions and technical equipment.

The federation expects that the women's national team (Gyeonggi Provincial Office), which achieved the best away performance at the 2026 Milan/Cortina Winter Olympics, the men's national team (Uiseong County Office) led by skip Byeong-jin Jeong, and the mixed doubles national team led by Junior World Championship gold medalist Kang Bo-bae, will create strong synergy by meeting the know-how of the new general manager.

Starting with a kickoff meeting with the national team, General Manager Tirinzoni plans to begin work in earnest, including establishing season training plans and linking overseas tours and training camps.
