A woman in her 40s who was put on trial for stalking actor Hwang Jung-min was sentenced to a fine of 6 million won.

On the 8th, Uijeongbu District Court Goyang Branch Criminal Division 4 (Judge Kim Young-ah) sentenced A, a woman in her 40s, to a fine of 6 million won on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.

The court explained the reason for the decision, saying, "Given the number and frequency of the text messages, it is recognized that the victim's anxiety was at the level of causing fear. It is judged that the defendant was aware that the victim did not want to continue to be contacted. Even if there was a legitimate reason for contacting him, the content and frequency of the messages sent exceeded the level of justifying the defendant's actions."

Mr. A did not attend the sentencing hearing that day, and only his lawyer was present.

Previously, Mr. A was investigated and handed over to trial following a complaint from Hwang Jung-min in August of last year, and the court issued a summary order to pay a fine of 3 million won to Mr. A in February.

Mr. A objected and requested a formal trial.

This incident became known when Mr. A recently claimed to have had a personal relationship with Hwang Jung-min through his SNS and disclosed phone call recordings and message conversations.

During the decision hearing, Mr. A admitted to sending messages suggesting suicide, a will, and a photo of a dead cat to Hwang Jung-min, but explained that it was not his intention to cause anxiety or fear in Hwang Jung-min, and that he had sent them in the process of informing Hwang of his condition and resolving their relationship.

The prosecution had requested the court to sentence Mr. A to a fine of 10 million won.
