Kuomintang candidate for Hsinchu County Mayor Xu Xinying recently put forward the political idea of "upgrading Zhudong Town to Zhudong City", but county councilor Zheng Chaozhong and Taiwan Advance Hsinchu County Zhudong and Wufeng District Councilor candidate Lin Qunjing today criticized Xu Xinying, who held up a hand sign while registering for election a few days ago. The "Zhudong Town" was outrageously mistakenly replaced by "Zhudong Township", and they criticized "the mouth calls for upgrading, but the hand is downgraded first!" Even the most basic administrative district name can be mistaken, which not only highlights the extreme unfamiliarity with the place, but also turns the upgrading policy into the most ironic political joke.

In this regard, Xu Xinying's office spokesman Xu Weiyuan said that it was found to be an internal operating error, but Xu Xinying did not criticize the team harshly, but encouraged them to improve and be more cautious in the future to avoid misunderstandings among the villagers.

As native children of Zhudong, Zheng Chaozhong and Lin Qunjing both said that seeing the name of their hometown written as "Zhudong Township" on such a formal occasion made them feel full of sadness and helplessness. Lin Kunjing strongly questioned that a candidate who is preparing to govern 13 towns and cities in Hsinchu County and keeps saying that she will promote upgrading does not even understand that Zhudong is now a "town". How can she convince the county people that she understands local needs? Zheng Chaozhong also appealed, please do not pass the responsibility to "misplaced propaganda" or front-line editorial partners. The content and political responsibility presented in formal occasions should be borne by the candidates.

Lin Qunjing emphasized that this slapstick farce revealed the long-standing political reality that Zhudong seems to be remembered only during the election. Before the election, politicians spent a lot of resources to build momentum and shouted "Love Zhudong". After the election, Zhudong's serious traffic congestion, lack of public transportation and the renewal of old school buildings and other key problems remain unsolved. The villagers are really tired of hearing empty promises.

"Zhudong people value love and justice. We really don't ask for much. We just hope that every promise is prepared." Zheng Chaozhong emphasized that upgrading requires a complete evaluation and specific supporting packages, rather than an election slogan. We call on those in power to see the differences and needs of the 13 towns and cities in Hsinchu County, and really take Zhudong to heart, instead of using a single slogan such as "Technology Capital" to apply to all places.
