Why It Matters

Analysis by CNN's Kevin Liptak reveals that US President Donald Trump repeatedly wondered during the war with Iran why the Iranian people did not rise up against their government, despite the military strikes and economic sanctions he ordered, and later admitted that he understood their suffering and knew they were being shot at right now, while insisting that the US election would not influence his decisions on Iran.

US Vice President J.D. Vance said that the United States is the only country capable of ensuring control over the Strait of Hormuz, noting that recent steps have made it difficult for Iran to target commercial ships, in order to ensure the flow of oil and gas to global energy markets, after Trump’s statements about going beyond US strikes to target Iranian radar systems and escort 40 commercial ships carrying 18 million barrels of oil through the Strait.
