She is Wang Pei, the champion of the beauty event in the 46th World Skills Competition Special Competition. "Nervous, proud, excited..." Talking about his experience as a contestant four years ago, Wang Pei described his mood as "complex".
In 2022, in Helsinki, Finland, Wang Pei from Chongqing won the gold medal in the beauty event. This was also the first gold medal won by a Chinese athlete in this event since participating in the World Skills Competition.
How did she win this gold medal? One of the answers lies in Chinese Kung Fu.
In the sports massage module, Wang Pei incorporated traditional Chinese massage and Tai Chi techniques. Such techniques "won the recognition of foreign referees, scored relatively high, and laid the foundation for winning the championship."
After the game, Croatian experts even specially invited her to demonstrate Chinese scraping, massage and other techniques there.
Four years later, she came to the Shanghai World Championships as a coach.
In her opinion, compared with previous competitions, there have been many new changes on the field this time.
First of all, in the past, most of the models were female models, but this year, considering that men also have skin care and beauty needs, male models are used in modules such as advanced facial care and hair removal, and the design is more in line with social reality.
At the same time, players do not operate according to a fixed process, and each event will change by 5% every day. Wang Pei feels that this is very similar to real life. "Maybe today the customer comes for care and has made an appointment about the procedures to be done, but temporarily proposes some changes due to personal needs or work arrangements... This point is well integrated into the competition and is more in line with real life."
However, the competition system is changing, but for Chinese players, one thing remains the same.
Contestant Yao Miaomiao, who participated in the beauty event this time, also integrated the calmness of Tai Chi into the body massage module. She integrated the inner strength and mental skills of traditional Chinese culture into modern skill training, demonstrating the unique body skills of Chinese contestants.

However, in the modern beauty industry that pursues modernization and uses various instruments, why do they still insist on improving their techniques?
"Instruments cannot replace the temperature and touch of human hands." Wang Pei believes that the beauty industry should also pay more attention to humanistic care, practicality and spiritual pursuits. Some massage parlors pursue healing and relaxation of body and mind, so the refinement and improvement of techniques are still crucial.
Massage before and after exercise is very consistent with some therapeutic techniques in traditional Chinese massage. Wang Pei said: "Our movements have always followed Tai Chi techniques, which are both soft and hard, both strong and gentle. They are also very consistent with the logic of massage."
