James Rodriguez retired from the Colombian national football team

The top scorer of the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez, announced on his social networks his retirement from the Colombian national football team.

"The time has come. Thank you for every match, every moment of joy, every tear. Defending the colors of the national team was the greatest pride. Thank you, Colombia," Rodriguez wrote on Instagram*.

Rodriguez is 35 years old. As part of the Colombian national team, he became the top scorer of the 2014 World Cup and the best player of the 2024 Copa America. In total, he has 131 matches and 31 goals scored in the national team. He shares first place in the number of matches played in the history of the national team with goalkeeper David Ospina.

In September, Rodriguez moved to Colombian Atlético Nacional. Previously, he played for the Colombian Envigado, the Argentine Banfield, the Portuguese Porto, Monaco from the French Championship, the Spanish Real Madrid, the German Bayern, the English Everton, the Qatari Air Rayan, the Greek Olympiacos, the Brazilian Sao Paulo, the Spanish Rayo Vallecano, and the Mexican Leon. Rodriguez is the champion of Argentina, Portugal, Spain, and Germany. With Real Madrid he won the Champions League twice.
