FIDE rejected Ukraine's complaint about Pavel Kolobkov's participation in the elections of vice president

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) rejected the complaint of the Ukrainian Chess Federation (FSU) about the participation of the former Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov in the elections of the vice-president of the organization, according to the FIDE website.

Earlier, the FIDE election commission approved Kolobkov's candidacy. It was nominated by the federations of Belarus, Cuba and Tajikistan. Russia will not have voting rights in the upcoming elections. Elections for the president and other officials of the organization will be held during the FIDE General Assembly on September 26 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

On September 2, FSHU head Alexander Kamyshin, as well as Kolobkov's election rivals George Mastrokoukos and David Llada, filed a formal complaint with the election commission challenging Kolobkov's eligibility, citing sanctions against the Russian Chess Federation (RFC). Kolobkov submitted his response on September 9, in which he emphasized that the presence of Russian citizenship in itself does not affect the status of a FIDE official.
