A rare meeting between the Russian and American finance ministers in the United States

Commenting on the meeting between the two countries' finance ministers, Scott Bessent and Anton Siluanov, Brown told The Washington Post: "It is important to maintain dialogue even in times of conflict."

Reuters: Bessent tells Siluanov that agreements before ending the conflict in Ukraine are not possible.

Earlier, Brown described the meeting as productive, reporting that it discussed "Trump’s peace and economic growth plan."

In a related context, CNBC reported that the meeting between Siluanov and Bessent in the United States highlights Washington's desire to restore high-level diplomatic channels with Moscow.

The channel said: "This rare meeting highlighted Washington's readiness to restore high-level diplomatic channels with Moscow."

It noted that Russia's return to the negotiating table has sparked discontent among European officials.

The Russian Ministry of Finance announced on Monday that Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, USA. It added that the meeting discussed issues of Russian-American cooperation on the financial track and cooperation within the G20 framework.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on June 28 that Moscow expects the dialogue with the United States on Ukraine to continue after the hot phase on the Iranian track ends. He added that Russia is ready to continue negotiations and discuss all details and topics raised in Anchorage in August 2025.
