An official vehicle was carrying out construction work at the junction of Nangang and Shiding sections of the Jiangweishui Expressway (National Highway No. 5) early this morning. It was shockingly reported that a worker surnamed Zhang was sitting in a construction truck driven by Mr. Zheng while working. He accidentally fell into the inside lane and was hit by a car driven by Ms. Lin from behind. Mr. Zhang died on the spot with severe head injuries and exposed organs. Ms. Lin was suspected of not being noticed at the time, but later turned back. The police conducted a sobriety test on both parties and found no alcohol reaction. In addition to investigating the hit-and-run accident, the police also reported the work to the labor inspection office and requested a suspension of work first to further clarify the fault liability of the driver, employer or business supervisor in this fatal car accident and work safety accident.
The National Highway 9 team received a report at about 2:9 this morning that an A1 traffic accident occurred 3.8 kilometers north of the Jiangweishui Expressway. The deceased, a 63-year-old worker surnamed Zhang, was working at the scene. At that time, he was riding in a construction truck driven by a 34-year-old Zheng man. He was sitting in the back of the truck while working and accidentally fell into the inside lane. A 46-year-old Lin woman was driving a small truck from behind and was unable to react. Due to the sudden accident, Lin turned back after regaining consciousness. The police did not respond to the alcohol test of both parties.
After receiving the report, the labor inspection unit sent personnel to understand and clarify that the High Power Bureau or the outsourced contractor was responsible for the construction, further clarified the responsibility for the accident, held the employer accountable, and required the unit responsible for the accident to stop work; it was revealed that, similar to national highway operations, most of the crew did not wear construction safety belts and other related protective gear for convenience, and related violations or driving responsibilities still need to be further clarified.
The National Highway 9 Team calls on passers-by to stay at the scene after an accident and take the initiative to report and rescue the injured. Violators will be involved in hit-and-run accidents. Those who cause injury and escape will be sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 6 months but not more than 5 years; those who cause death or serious injury and escape will be sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 1 year but not more than 7 years. The prosecutor will be asked for instructions and the body of the deceased will be examined to clarify the cause of death.
