Taichung International Step Dance Carnival venue configuration raises public doubts

"2026 Taichung International Step Dance Carnival" was launched yesterday (12) and today (13)! For the first time this year, it was held in tandem with the four major administrative districts of Tanzi, Houli, Beitun and Bei District. Yesterday, some people pointed out on the Internet that the entire street was closed and the performance was only in front of the main stage. People could only watch from behind and sideways. They were exposed to the scorching sun and felt extremely bad. The city government responded that the overall venue configuration will comprehensively consider factors such as street routes, activity procedures, safety, and people flow lines.

Netizens pointed out that the city government used taxpayers’ money to close streets to hold events, but the result was that people came to watch the show with council members, district chiefs, and officials. Was this event held by the people, or was it just for the officials to watch in the VIP area?

The Tourism and Tourism Bureau of the Taichung City Government stated that the Taichung International Step Dance Carnival has featured street performances for 11 years. Over the years, the viewing platform has been set up with reference to domestic and foreign step dance activities and Japanese festivals, for VIPs and national step dance judges to observe the ceremony, and also to express welcome and greetings to domestic and foreign dance groups; the overall venue configuration comprehensively considers factors such as the street dance route, activity flow, safety, and people flow lines.

The Tourism Bureau pointed out that in order to provide the public with a better participation and viewing experience, in the future, the selection of event venues, audience areas and circulation configuration will be carefully evaluated and continuously optimized, while taking into account event safety and procedures, the overall event planning will be more complete.
