According to statistics from the Ministry of Transport, the number of deaths in traffic accidents nationwide from January to June this year dropped by 15% compared with the same period in 2023; among which the number of deaths among children and adolescents dropped by 59.4% most significantly.

Zhang Shunqing, counselor of the Ministry of Transport, said that the number of automobiles and motorcycles in the country has reached 23.4 million, exceeding the total population, of which 14.6 million are motorcycles. Therefore, this year's Traffic Safety Month, in addition to focusing on "protecting motorcycle safety", has joined hands with seven major car manufacturers and more than 7,000 car dealers to provide free vehicle health inspections and no-violation lottery draws. Chen Wenrui, director of the Expressway Bureau, said that the High-Tech Bureau is committed to reducing the accident rate on national highways. Yan Wangsheng, director of the National Highway Police Department, pointed out that from January to April this year, "distracted driving" accounted for nearly half of the total deaths on national highways. When an accident occurs, they should remember that "safety first, then deal with the accident" to avoid secondary accidents. Yuantong Electric said that since 2018, it has invested in the Jingjuan Foundation's "Traffic Safety Education Promotion Plan" and jointly launched free road safety textbooks and picture books, which have been used by more than 350,000 school children and 3,500 schools.
Lin Zhijia, chairman of the Jingjuan Foundation, said that this year, together with Yuantong and uTagGo, they will launch the "Let's Go! LET'S GO" digital teaching material, which turns the three most common areas that children come into contact with during schooling: "crossing the road, taking the bus, and parking lots" into interactive levels. It will be available for free download and application in all elementary schools in Taiwan at the beginning of the school year. It is hoped that the cumulative benefit will be expanded to 400,000 school children.
