Russian culture has become a soft force for the world, but with a hard core - it unites people regardless of nationality, Ekaterina Ivanova, head of the directorate for creative projects at the Roscongress Foundation, told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

“Culture has already become, in a good sense, a soft force, but with a hard core that helps preserve Russia. Always, at all times, the very first diplomatic relations between countries were built on a cultural code,” Ivanova said.

For example, in ancient times, when caravans went to Persia, Russian merchants saw Persian carpets, copper coinage, dishes, and from our side the ambassadors brought furs, bone carvings, and so on, Ivanova recalled. “That is, the exchange of cultural codes is very important,” she explained.

According to her, great importance will be given to culture within the framework of the international week “Peoples of Russia”, which will be held in November as part of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. “There we will also have something to show and something to surprise participants and guests,” noted the agency’s interlocutor.

In addition, the International Forum of United Cultures will take place at the end of September in St. Petersburg. “A large number of ministers of culture from different countries and many theater workers, film industry figures, museum workers, representatives of completely different branches of culture and art will come there,” Ivanova added.

“We pay great attention to the cultural program of all our forums, not only economic ones. This is an industry and design forum, where we discuss issues related to the development of the industry - this is industrial design, this is the design of the urban environment, this is technological design. This is the forum “Russia is a sports power”, as well as the Wine Forum. And Russian winemaking is not only the production and distribution of Russian wine, but also the development of tourism,” she concluded.
