市長張善政出席開工典禮表示，地政局近兩年積極盤點轄內公共設施保留地，並儘速解編、還地於民，平鎮義興是近日繼八德、新屋的第3處公保地解編重劃開工案，面積雖然不大，由於周邊發展迅速，儘速完成重劃對地方助益極大。

地政局表示，義興市地重劃區面積約0.27公頃，原為1972年公告實施「中壢平鎮都市擴大修訂計畫案」內的市15市場用地，因應經濟發展及時空環境變遷，於1992年至2001年間辦理都市計畫檢討，變更規劃為商業區及停車場用地，但因地主未整合，遲遲無法開發。

地政局表示，義興重劃區鄰近義興國小，經地方反映學生上、下學期間交通壅塞及周邊停車空間不足等問題，希望由市府推動公辦市地重劃，可取得0.08公頃公設用地並闢建為停車場，可提供28格停車位，包含無障礙及婦幼車位，未來配合重劃區外北側道路開闢，可有效改善義興國小通學尖峰時段交通動線及停車空間；另約0.19公頃商業區將配回地主，創造公、私雙贏。
