Inner Mongolia Xing'an League's saline-alkali tolerant rice yield reaches a record high, with an average yield per mu of 552.67 kilograms

China News Service, Xing'an League, September 12 (Reporter Zhang Wei) The reporter learned from the workstation of Academician Yuan Longping of the Xing'an League on the 12th that the 2026 saline-alkali tolerant rice production test event was held in the Keyou Middle Banner of the Xing'an League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. According to the on-site harvest measurement by the expert team, the average yield per mu of saline-alkali tolerant rice reached 552.67 kilograms, setting a new record high.

The yield measurement expert team selected three measuring points in different plots of "Xingyan 2608", inspected the harvesting machinery on site, completed harvesting, threshing, bagging, and weighing in sequence, and measured the impurity rate and rice moisture content. The yield per mu was calculated according to a unified method. Finally, the average yield per mu of the new strain "Xingyan 2608" was determined to be 552.67 kilograms.

Keyou Middle Banner is located in the hinterland of Horqin Sandy Land and is one of the concentrated distribution areas of saline-alkali land in Xing'an League. Since its establishment in 2018, the Xing'an League Academician Yuan Longping Workstation has continued to tackle key problems in the breeding and cultivation of northern cold-land rice and salt-alkali tolerant rice, promoting the collaborative integration of "good varieties" and "good methods." At present, 2.45 million acres of high-standard farmland have been built in Keyouzhong Banner.

Xu Xingjian, dean of the Xing'an League Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences, said: "By improving rice cultivation in saline-alkali land, not only the soil pH value and salt content can be reduced, but also the rice yield can be maintained at more than 500 kilograms per year."

It is understood that Xing'an League Academician Yuan Longping's workstation has now established 6 scientific research bases with a total area of 8,677 acres, and a total of 7 new rice varieties have been approved. Up to now, the cumulative promotion area of ​​relevant new rice varieties and new technologies in Xing'an League has reached more than 100,000 acres, turning large areas of saline-alkali wasteland into high-yielding fertile land.

Xie Hua'an, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the transformation experience of this saline-alkali land can be replicated and promoted, and can radiate to surrounding areas, providing innovative experience for the transformation and utilization of saline-alkali land in the entire northern cold region.
