The Nepalese Army announces the rescue of 58 people and the recovery of two bodies after the floods

(CNN) - In an evening update, the Nepalese Army announced that 58 people were rescued on Friday with the help of seven military aircraft and six civilian aircraft.

This toll includes the two men who were miraculously extracted from a tunnel at the Trishuli-3A hydroelectric power station after being stuck in it for more than a week, when they were airlifted to the hospital. Rescue personnel also recovered one body from the site and are continuing search operations.

The army said that a rescue team entered the tunnel at the Langtang hydroelectric power station and recovered two bodies. He added that operations are still ongoing at the Chileme station, where rescue teams were able to advance approximately an additional 100 meters into the tunnel after removing silt and debris.

The army stated that search teams are making progress at the Trishuli-3B and Upper Trishuli-1 tunnel sites, as they are working to clear about 700 meters of the access path to connect it to the Trishuli-3A site. He explained that the teams use boats and rafts to carry out these operations, in conjunction with work on pumping water and removing it from the tunnel.

Meanwhile, an engineering team from the Nepalese Army has been deployed in Devegat to install a bridge over the Tadi River.

The Nepalese Army announced the deployment of more than 9,300 of its members in areas affected by the floods, where they are working to provide emergency medical care, reopen closed roads, and conduct foot patrols to ensure the safety of local residents.
