Democratic Party criticizes People Power Party for delay in preparing for launch of Public Prosecution Office and Central Investigation Office

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Pyeong-cheon = The Democratic Party of Korea criticized on the 5th, saying, “The People Power Party is giving up on follow-up legislation that will accelerate preparations for the launch of the Public Prosecution Service and the Serious Crimes Investigation Office.”

Lee Joo-hee, the floor spokesperson, said in a written briefing, "There is less than a month left until the launch of the Public Prosecution Office and the Central Investigation Office, and on the 2nd of next month, a major transition will begin where investigation and prosecution will be separated."

Representative Lee pointed out, “The People Power Party proposed a bill to delay the launch of the Public Prosecution Office and the Central Investigation Office by one year, and even filed a constitutional appeal against the revised Criminal Procedure Act,” adding, “It is like setting a red line at both the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court.”

He continued, “I ask whether the purpose of the one-year delay in the launch of the Public Prosecution Office and the Central Investigation Office is not to establish (the system) but to destroy it.”

He said, “The organization and staff of the Public Prosecution Service have not yet been confirmed, and related laws and regulations still need to be improved.” He added, “The government must quickly confirm the organization and revise the laws, and the National Assembly will provide thorough support through follow-up legislation.”

At the same time, he emphasized, “The Democratic Party will monitor the scene to ensure that there are no gaps in the investigation or delays in the case,” and “We will take full responsibility until the new criminal justice system is established with the people.”
