The modernized "Bear" with nuclear missiles was stripped of its guns

The modernized strategic missile carrier Tu-95MSM was deprived of defensive weapons, which are part of the Tu-95MS arsenal (according to NATO codification: Bear-H - “Bear”). This was discussed in the “Military Acceptance” program.

The combat Tu-95MS, which carry nuclear missiles, carry a 9-K-502-II aft mount with a pair of GSh-23 double-barreled guns. In the Tu-95MSM, instead of the guns, there is a technical compartment. A representative of the developer company said that the compartment improves buoyancy in the event of an emergency splashdown.

It is noted that modern missile carriers operate at a great distance from the front line. Therefore, the Tu-95 does not need a gun to protect itself from enemy interceptors.
