Trump's special envoy Witkoff announced the imminent announcement of trilateral negotiations on Ukraine

The announcement of a new round of trilateral negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine may be made in the near future. This was stated by the special envoy of American President Donald Trump, Steven Witkoff, at a press conference in Kyiv.

“You heard the President [of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky, who spoke about a trilateral meeting. It will hopefully be announced soon,” Witkoff said.

He emphasized that the US delegation delved into the search for a solution to the Ukrainian problem. The politician is convinced that “all the ingredients are there” for a peaceful settlement.

Moscow’s new proposals and Washington’s position

Witkoff flew to Kyiv after a visit to Moscow. He said that during a trip to Russian leader Vladimir Putin he heard new ideas on the Ukrainian settlement. The American diplomat also expressed hope that the constructive work in the last two days will serve as the beginning of a rapprochement between the positions of Russia and Ukraine.

Another negotiator from Washington, US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, revealed that the White House is currently working on a peace package for the Ukrainian settlement. According to him, a large number of people are involved in the process, including representatives of Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Kushner also explained that Trump wants not just to end the conflict, but to create conditions for long-term peace.

According to Western media, the United States wants to achieve a breakthrough in negotiations to resolve the conflict before winter. However, as Bloomberg writes, Russia’s demands on Ukraine are becoming more stringent, and Moscow is ready to end military operations only on its own terms, based on the situation on the front line.

Evaluation of the negotiation process

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova, in an interview with Lenta.ru, noted that Trump has been making efforts as a mediator to resolve the Ukrainian conflict for a long time, but has not yet moved much from the dead point. “Trump is trying. Question for Zelensky. Since Trump’s special envoys are now in Ukraine, it means that efforts are being made at a minimum, but the question is the effectiveness of these efforts,” she said.

In turn, military correspondent Alexander Kots spoke harshly about peace negotiations with Kiev.
