In Russia, the number of bars in cities with a population of one million has decreased by 6% per year

As of the end of August, 5.9 thousand bars were operating in cities with a population of more than a million people in Russia, which is six percent less than a year earlier. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to data from the 2GIS service.

There are 1.9 thousand bars left in the capital, their number decreased by 14 percent over the year. In Krasnodar, the decrease was ten percent - 285 establishments.

At the same time, in Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan and Perm, the number of bars, on the contrary, increased by 8, 5, 4 and 3 percent, respectively.

The head of the Wine Retail information center, Alexander Stavtsev, discussing the situation in Moscow, noted that new bars are still opening, but points are closing more actively. Experts believe that establishments have been hit by competition, a drop in purchasing power, and rising operating costs and tax burdens.

Another reason is a strong drop in traffic on weekdays, because people are increasingly choosing to stay at home, as well as a drop in interest in alcohol in general. According to Stavtsev, even wealthy visitors began to spend less on alcohol.

The situation is worst in the wine segment, and in the context of age, young people are more inclined to give up alcohol. As a result, premium and youth bars most often close in Moscow, as well as old-time establishments that have not adapted to the new reality. Democratic formats, including tinctures, remain more stable.
