Fu Zhaoxuan wins Asian Games men's high jump gold medal, Taiwan wins track and field gold medal again after 60 years

Taiwanese high jumper Fu Zhaoxuan won the gold medal with 2.25 meters in the men's high jump final of the Nagoya Asian Games, becoming Taiwan's first men's track and field Asian Games gold medalist in 60 years.

The 23-year-old athlete jumped 2.25 meters in the final, tying his personal season best and winning Taiwan's third gold medal at the Asian Games.

This is also the first time in 34 years that Taiwan has won a medal in the men's high jump event. The last time was in 1990 when Liao Xuesong won the bronze medal. Earlier, the last time Taiwan won an Asian Games gold medal in men's track and field was in 1966 when Wu A-min won the decathlon.

On the other hand, the Taiwanese baseball team defeated China 5-1 in the bronze medal game. Lin Yu started and pitched eight scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out ten, helping the team continue its ten-game winning streak against China.

The game was held at the Okazaki Comprehensive Park Baseball Stadium. The Taiwanese team led 2-0 in the first half. Yang Baixiang hit a two-run triple in the second inning. Although the Chinese team had blocked the Taiwan team's offensive in the third to sixth inning, Taiwan expanded its lead in the seventh inning with a two-run double by Chen Minci, and then Gao Yuwei added another run, making the score 5-0.

However, in the top of the ninth inning, Chinese catcher Luan Chenchen hit a single, ending Taiwan's dream of a shutout. In the whole game, the Taiwan team had 13 hits, while the Chinese team had only three.

In the previous final, South Korea defeated Japan 3-1. South Korea has now won seven gold medals in the Asian Games baseball tournament, the most in history. Taiwan and Japan each have one gold medal.

During the Taiwan-Japan Super League the day before, signs prohibiting the display of the flag of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Rising Sun Flag of Japan were posted at the stadium entrance. This was because during the Taichung match the day before, a staff member asked spectators to put away banners with "Taiwan" written on them, on the grounds that political messages were prohibited at the stadium. This move caused dissatisfaction among Taiwanese fans and was also criticized on Japanese social media.

However, the relevant signs had been removed before yesterday's bronze medal game.

According to the regulations of the past Asian Games and Olympic Games, spectators can only bring flags or related items of participating countries into the venue. Other items with political messages or deemed to be against public order are not allowed to enter.
